A graduate student in Vermont stumbles across a mysterious book in the library, and in his enthralled reading of it, comes across a tale from his own childhood. In trying to find out how it came to be there, he discovers an ancient subterranean library and becomes embroiled in the goings on around it. Through his travels, he finds out much about himself and his connections to the mysterious book.
